Artists : The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins were formed in Chicago in 1988 with Billy Corgan, D'arcy Wretzky, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin. Their sound can best be described as alternative rock but often veers to punk,gothic and electronica.

Billy Corgan, the band's vocalist is responsible for most of the songwriting and lyrics.With the music itself often described to be dark and anguished, these factors contributed to the band's break into the mainstream in '93 with siamese dream.

At the peak of their success in '96, Corgan adopted a brooding,minimal image something that wouldn't change for the rest of his career. It was at this time that the band was whittled down to three members for their '98 record 'Adore'.

The Smashing Pumpkins temporarily disbanded in 2000. This later led to Billy Corgan attributing the reasons for their break-up to James Iha and D'arcy Wretzky on his blog.

The Smashing Pumpkins re-united in 2006 following a full page advertisement on Billy Corgan's part expressing his desire to get the band together again.

The band now saw replacements for both James And D'arcy and the release of "Tarantula" in 2007
Most recently is the EP "American Gothic" released in 2008.

The success of The Smashing Pumpkins has endured with the band performing at the Jersey leg of live earth.
